The La Porte High School T.R.U.T.H PROGRAM (Teens Reaching Upward Toward Health) WHAT: A voluntary drug testing and incentive program designed to encourage teens to avoid drugs and alcohol. WHO: La Porte High, Lomax Jr. High, La Porte Jr. High and DeWalt Alternative School Students Why: To reduce the use of these substances by our students and to further educate them on healthy living styles. WHEN: The T.R.U.T.H table is set up in the cafeteria every Monday during all three lunches to sell popcorn/candy for student scholarships and/ or to distribute free T-shirts, Discount Cards and other items. NEW ITEM: Monthly parent meetings are now available to all parents in the entire LPISD. Refreshments are served at every meeting, and all participants are eligible to win door prizes. In an effort to deter drug and alcohol abuse among our students, LPHS is implementing the T.R.U.T.H program. This voluntary program will provide a strong incentive and send a positive message to students about the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle. Students who agree to participate will be eligible for a free t-shirt, a discount card sponsored by local businesses and the opportunity to join their peers in regular outings and activities. The program in not designed to be punitive in nature, but to “reward kids who stay clean and help them to see the benefits of a drug-free lifestyle.” Our local businesses can support our students in their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle by agreeing to be a program sponsor and providing a discount to our students or a donation to help support the program. Participating businesses will be recognized on the discount card and in the local Bayshore Sun and LPHS school paper. Won’t you help? Any questions?
