1. Always Check: Counselor's Corner on the La Porte High School Website

then, Campus Resources

then, Counselor Corner

there, look for ongoing events, AP/PAP info, college lunch dates & times, SAT/Act info, course selection info. Deadlines, scholarships websites, all counselor related information.  It changes weekly, so check it weekly!

 

2. College Visits

go visit colleges to see what you like/dislike.

2 free visits per year (not counted absent, but will go against exemptions)

Have to get approval form from Ms. Cotton-Mitchell (Seniors) or Ms. Hawthorne (Juniors) prior to college visit. And bring the approval form back to Ms. Melton with the college representatives signature.

 

3. NCAA – Athletes Apply NOW if you are going to play sports in college!!!

4. SAT/ACT College Entrance Tests:

Do this the later part of your Junior year.

You should take the SAT/ACT tests to see where your test scores are and to have something to give to colleges your senior year.

You should retake the tests if you do not score high enough to meet college entrance requirements.

Check each college to see their requirements; each college is different.
