La Porte JROTC

Greetings Parents and Students, I am the Senior Army Instructor Major Crystal Armstrong. On behalf of the program, I would like to welcome you. I have 27 years’ experience as an enlisted Soldier and officer to guide, mentor, teach, and develop students. I am a University of Houston graduate and I am new to the La Porte ISD family.

The Assistant Army Instructor, Sergeant First Class Cruz Montanez, would also like to welcome freshman students and parents. We do set high standards in the program and our expectations are above those of other organizations on campus.

The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens. We support the following sports: Regulation Drill, Color Guard, Marksmanship, Physical Fitness, and Orienteering. In addition, we offer our students many opportunities to help the community and gain service hours.

We also teach our students how to be leaders. Our students are among the most honorable students on campus. Our cadets are recognized throughout the community and requested to support many events. Also, this program prepares high school students for leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. It is a stimuli for promoting graduation from high school and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities which will benefit the student, community, and nation.
