**Updated** La Porte ISD Safety and Security Update

We appreciate the cooperation of parents as we implement these changes. New elementary lunch visitor procedures, for example, will help our schools ensure the safety of students by allowing adequate time to complete the security check-in measures and accommodate parents in a designated area where they eat with their own children. After consulting with La Porte ISD principals and considering parent concerns, students will be permitted to have personal clear water bottles or clear containers with lids for water. Water fountains are located throughout each campus.

Our enhanced security plan also includes changes to the district dress code, which now requires that backpacks, satchels and briefcases be clear, transparent or mesh and prohibits personal bags in excess of 8” X 10”. (Please see the complete La Porte ISD Dress Code for more details.) It is our intent to communicate to parents any changes in procedures as soon as they occur.

As you drive through the district, you will also see increased campus fencing, and other changes have been made in our buildings to enhance their safety features. All employees, including substitutes, will be undergoing extensive safety training prior to the start of the school year, and student and staff drills for various emergency situations will be held during the first few weeks of school as well as routinely throughout the year. Additional changes will be implemented as we continue to assess safety in our district.

We encourage you to visit the Back-to-School section on the La Porte ISD website (, which includes important information for parents, including our online registration instructions, school calendars, school handbooks, dress code, supply lists and more. You may also wish to sign up for our mobile app, available for iPhone and Android devices at the Apple and Google Play stores, and subscribe to our new electronic newsletter, the eLeader, on our website. Throughout the school year, please make sure that your contact information is updated with your child’s campus office so that we may contact you with School Messenger callouts.

Our district mission statement is “Every student’s success is our number one priority,” and we are committed to providing a safe, high-quality learning environment for all of our students.
