Waleed is the son of Nazia Firdous and Khalid Chatta of Deer Park, and Emma is the daughter of Laurie and Mike Staes of La Porte.
Both students are products of La Porte ISD schools. Waleed started school in LPISD as a second grader at Heritage Elementary School and then attended James H. Baker Sixth Grade Campus and Lomax Junior High School. Emma attended Leo A. Rizzuto Elementary School, James H. Baker Sixth Grade Campus and La Porte Junior High School.
Waleed’s older sister, Izza, was the valedictorian of the LPHS Class of 2017, and he has followed in her footsteps. Also like Izza, he plans to attend Baylor University, where he will major in pre-med. He has a younger brother, Moaz, a sixth grader at James H. Baker.
Waleed has been a participant in the Accelerated College Education (ACE) program at LPHS, through which he will graduate from high school and earn his diploma from San Jacinto College at the same time. While at LPHS, he has served as president of the Interact Club and was a member of the academic decathlon team, HABLA and National Honor Society. He will also advance to the state DECA competition this spring in the Principles of Finance competition.
Emma’s older brother, Mason, is a 2016 LPHS honor graduate. She plans to follow in his footsteps as well, attending the University of Texas at Austin to major in civil engineering. She also has a younger sister, Hannah, who is a seventh grader at La Porte Junior High School.
While at LPHS, Emma has played basketball, softball and tennis at the varsity level. In addition, she serves as vice president of the National Honor Society and has participated in the LPHS musical all four years.
